Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Anthropometry, Subtalar Joint, Sagittal Plane
Document Summary
Planes and axes: anatomical position - is the reference position for the human body as agreed by anatomists, biomechanists, doctors, etc, standing up right, arms down, palms forward, knees together, toes forward. For segment motion, the anatomical position may not be convenient for your analysis. The mediolateral axis (ml) runs left to right (or right to left) through the body: flexion-extension at the knee, hip, elbow, shoulder, spine, plantar-dorsiflexion at the ankle, noddi(cid:374)g (cid:858)yes(cid:859) at the (cid:374)eck. The anterior-posterior axis (ap) runs front to back (or back to front) through the body: ab-duction-ad-duction at the hip, shoulder. Inversion-eversion at the subtalar joint (lower ankle: lateral flexion at the neck. The internal-external rotation axis (ie) runs down (or up) the long axis of the body. Internal-external rotation at the hip, shoulder (cid:858)no(cid:859) (cid:373)otio(cid:374) at the (cid:374)eck: often, the motion is in a general plane, which is a combination of all three principal planes.
