Document Summary

There are 5 joints that we will consider: The glenoid: the glenoid fossa is a shallow depression in the lateral scapula ringed by the rotator cuff made up the tendons of the muscles that mobilize and stabilize the joint rotator cuffs make the fossa deeper. The humeral head: head of humerus is a hemisphere (half a sphere) that fits into the glenoid fossa there is not must bony stability, so the rotator cuff is what stops dislocation. Abductors: supraspinatus; adductors: all others: all pull medial to stabilize the humeral head into the glenoid fossa. The elbow: articulation of the distal humerus with the proximal ends of the radius & ulna primarily stabilized via its ligaments: radial collateral ligament: ulnar collateral ligament, annular ligament interosseous membrane. Mobilizers of the elbow: the elbow flexor group and the elbow extensor group. Distal radial-ulnar joint: allows forearm supination and pronation by having the head of the ulna rotate around the distal radius.
