Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Virtual Reality, Accelerometer, Physical Therapy
Document Summary
About optimizing performance, analyzing technique, understanding what makes us move and what causes those movements. There is a reason why people throw, catch, run, etc. the way that they do. Understanding how things move: video analysis analyzing the way things move. Biomechanics is the sport science field that applies the laws of mechanics and physics to human performance, in order to gain a greater understanding of performance in athletic events through modeling, simulation and measurement. The general role of biomechanics is to understand the mechanical cause-affect relationships that determine the motions of living organisms. Not just about sports, a huge portion of biomechanics is based in the health research field and movie industries. Biomechanics must be considered an inherent part of physical therapy, which purports the distinctive characteristics of prevention, evaluation, and treatment of movement dysfunction (figure). In fact, isolating physical therapy from biomechanics appears impossible: cannot have one without the other.
