Kinesiology 2241A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Centrifugal Force
Document Summary
Centripetal force: the force causing centripetal acceleration (center seeking). A weight tethered to an axis that is spinning, the only way it stays on this path is because it is tethered to an axis. Its acceleration towards the centre of rotation keeps it in motion. As soon as it is no longer tethered to the axis, it wants to fly in a straight line, this is tangential force. o. Fc = m* 2 * r (kg m/s2) Centrifugal force: the center fleeing force that is equal and opposite to the centripetal force. Has the same magnitude and dimensions but opposite direction, think of newton"s second law and how for every force there is an equal and opposite force. This force tries to pull the object away from the circular path. If the object stays on the circular path then the centripetal force is equal and opposite to the centrifugal force. Eccentric force: a force that causes rotation.
