From weeks 3-8: 3 primary germ layers form, ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm, organogenesis, embryonic membranes develop, amnion, yolk sac, allantois, chorion. Icm divides into 2 layers: upper epiblast. Fills w amniotic fluid: encapsulates embryo, buoyant environment, regulates temp, shock absorb, protects from drying out. Forms part of gut: primordial germ cells --> gonads, early blood cells and vessels to give nutrients for week 2-3, blood cells week 3-6. Small outpocketing from caudal end of yolk sac. Umbilical cord: core of embryonic connective tissue. Late gastrulation: 2 layered embryonic disc transformed into 3 layered embryo, primary germ layers, ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm, cellular rearrangement and migration. Skin epidermis (hair, nails, sweat glands: nervous system, cornea and lens, epithelium of oral and nasal cavities and anal canal. Skeletal, smooth, cardiac muscle: cartilage, bone, connective tissue, blood, bone marrow, endothelium of blood vessels, urogenital system. Liver, pancreas: epithelium of digestive tract, epithelium of respiratory tract, epithelium of reproductive ducts and glands.
