Energy is the potential to do work, energy is measured in calories. Atp is the molecule that carries energy, it is the currency for energy in the cells because every cell can use atp for work. Atp comes from the breakdown of cho, fats and proteins. Atp can be used in anything from secretion of hormones, muscle action, nerve pulses, circulation of blood and digestion. Atp is vital because if you are dead no systems would work, they can also produce things like amino acids turning into protein. Atp is composed of adenine and ribose and triphosphate. There are energy bonds on triphosphate where energy is released when the bonds are broken. Chemical process so it is slow, and you don"t release all the energy at once. Forces needs to be generated for the muscle to do work which is why atp-enzyme is so necessary.
