Kinesiology 3457A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Cognitive Load, Cruise Control
Document Summary
It is a combination of all of these things. Mental workload: are there tasks that are too easy or too hard, there needs to be a balance between too easy and too hard. If it"s too easy: you lose interest/bored/annoyed that it is too easy, easily distracted which can lead to an increase in making errors. If it"s too diffi(cid:272)ult: you get frustrated/(cid:272)o(cid:374)fused a(cid:271)out what you"re supposed to be doing, this can also lead to errors, working memory - holds limited information for short periods of time and requires little processing. Easy: ex: questionnaire, task performance how long it takes them to complete the task successfully, ex: number of errors, physiology fmri, ex: heart rate. Multiple resource theory: people have a limited set of resources available for mental processes, multiple stimuli can be processed more easily if not tapping the same resources.
