H1n1 influenza: outbreak in alberta (christmas 2013) 10 deaths. Young (ie. 20 - 40) individuals susceptible. Drc (congo) currently has novel ebola outbreak. Sars-cov-2: causing covid-19 disease currently (2019 - 2020) Everywhere (exogenous) & in all living things. All likely infected for life by herpes virus. Eat viruses daily (insect viruses on vegetables) Present in large quantities (eg. 1 tsp ocean water = ~5m viruses) Excreted by marine life (eg. calicivirus in whales rashes, gastroenteritis) Small, non-infectious viral seqs have integrated into human genomes. Most viruses that infect don"t cause disease due to immune defense mechs. Each response attempts to destroy virus/prevent infection.
