Respond to a variety of stimuli e. g. , light, sound, pressure, vibration, temperature, etc. Converts mechanical input (the physical position of its wiper terminal), into an electrical signal by the simple principle of a potential divider. Operates through physical interface of wiper and main resistive track. Resistive track can be made from different resistive mediums: Cermet film (conductive ceramic): increases resolution and reduces noise. Interface with computer hardware requires analog to digital conversion (adc) of output. Allows current from the external power supply to flow in response to light. The electromagnetic spectrum is the distribution of electromagnetic radiation according to energy, frequency, or wavelength. Visible light, gamma rays, microwaves, etc. are really the same things. Each is electromagnetic radiation; they differ only in wavelength. Photons are tiny bundles of energy produced by the excited atoms. Light is radiant energy that travels in the form of electromagnetic waves.
