Price fluctuations cause companies to buy more than they need: follow special promotions like price discounts, affect the replenishment orders placed in the supply system, create more demand variability within the supply chain. Rationing and shortage gaming result when demand exceeds supply and products are rationed to members: customers then will tend to over exaggerate their demand so they get the actual amount they want.
