Women"s suffrage in the uk 1870 - 1928: went on for much longer, term given to the three phases of women"s suffrage in england. Mit2152 lecture 5: one before 1870, called the women"s cause. Second phase: radicalism tried to influence parliament, pressuring parliament to get women to vote. Staging it so it would look good and be effective on camera: parades, 20 million people going to cinema every week, became a good way to bring awareness, people attending the march. See them in the best light: the derby, emily davidson being hit by a horse on derby day, went out and stood in front of a horse turning the bend. She dies 3 days later and becomes news: mailing the militants, negative point, ridiculing the women"s suffrage. She makes him stay at home as she goes to protest: the tilly girls, comedy duo, when adults not looking they behave badly. England: nuwss, wspu, women"s social and political union.
