Nurses are responsible for promoting health, caring for the sick, alleviating suffering. Nurses used to visit families in their homed and worked alongside family caregivers in partnership with doctors. Know the patients by ministering to their physical needs, providing physical care, listening to stories. Families were seen more as a nuisance. (cid:1005)(cid:1013)(cid:1009)(cid:1004)"s; patients thought they had to be passive and submissive: cooperate with treatment and submit mind, body, soul. Nurses care for 3 5 patients. Community care nursing focused on home visiting, public health ed, prenatal/ postnatal care, immunization, school nursing, occupational health. Growth of deficit model & influence on health care. Biomedical model: help do(cid:272)tors u(cid:374)dersta(cid:374)d the patie(cid:374)t"s (cid:373)edi(cid:272)al pro(cid:271)le(cid:373)(cid:894)s(cid:895), a(cid:272)(cid:272)urate diag(cid:374)osis, best treatment. Patients felt reduced to their body parts. Nurses derive their job satisfaction from being given the autonomy to carry out responsibilities that are commensurate with their knowledge and experience: still slightly related to a positive relationship with physicians.
