The study of origins in nursing knowledge, its structure and methods, the patterns of knowing its members and the criteria for validating its knowledge claims. It is central to the art of nursing and the philosophy of the nursing program. It is the relational quality of being present with another. The ontological quality is evident in a caring attitude, a sense of connectedness, and other healing ways, and through art forms such as poetry, art, literature, and journal writing.
