History can provide a sense of identity by expanding your historical consciousness. Enables you to see how the past has shaped the present nursing context. Understanding our history gives us a sense of our past. As far as ancient times, sik were taken care of by family in own homes. Some nurses have cared for sick and were hired: privately. 1629: first nurses to care for the sick in a type of health are centre were male attendants at a sick bay established at a french garrison in port royal acadia. Jesuit priests who came to new france as missionaries also cared for the sick. Often in order to carry ou missions they tried to convert the first nations. Poor has it sough, couldn"t hire nurse, but couldn"t afford to stay home to care for sick. Has a long history of being associated with religious mvmnts. During early christian period, nursing became a service provided by women in communitires.
