Spirituality is a broad concept that goes beyond religious or cultural boundaries. Outside of nursing, spirituality is defined as: a transcendent relationship with something greater than the self. Nurse authors define it is: harmonious interconnectedness and the inherent aspect of our beingness. Holistic nursing means that the interaction of multiple systems creates holism. Holism assumes that a persons more that the sum of many parts, and differs from wholism which suggests that persons are an aggregate of their subsystems, or the whole of their constituent parts. A holistic practice recognizes that the stress of acute or chronic illness may cause persons to engage in search for meaning and purpose in life. Spiritual comes from latin word spiritus which means breathe . Spirit from webester dictionary is the life giving, vital, animating force of human beings and also the vigor, courage, and ardor that infuses life with energy.
