Spirituality relates to an inner knowing and source of strength reflected in one"s being, one"s knowing, and one"s doing (burkhardt & nagai-johnson, 1994). An energy that gives a person a reason to exist (potter & perry, 2001) A sense of harmonious interconnectedness between self and others, nature and an ultimate being. Spirituality is like an umbrella with several components included underneath. 1 | p a g e: relationship with self, relationship with nature, relationship with others, relationship with a deity. Inner strength and self-reliance: self-knowledge (who one is, what one can do, attitudes (trust, trust in life/future, peace of mind, harmony with self) Harmony: knowing about plants, wildlife, weather, elements of physical environment, communing with nature; preserving nature.
