Nursing 1080A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Alternative Medicine, Empirical Evidence
Document Summary
To ensure holistic health assessment, a nurse needs to collect information about a person"s physical, psychological, spiritual, and socioenvironmental well-being. The term holistic comes from the greek word meaning whole . When performing a holistic health assessment the nurse must keep the whole person in mind and attempt to understand how an issue of concern in one area impacts the whole person. It is also important for the nurse to understand how environmental, social and relational factors influence health. Clinical judgment is not linear, and is influenced by a variety of ways of knowing (tanner, 2006). Good clinical judgment leads to positive outcomes for the client, whomever that may be. Characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of the disease. Looking at the whole picture; aiming to balance between mental, emotional and physical health. Proven to be faster and more effective recovery.
