Nurses need to be knowledgeable about families and the roles they play in health because the family is the context in which health behaviours are learned. The community in which one resides is also an important contributor to one"s health. Awareness of the makeup, social systems, and structure of a community provide important information on which to make decisions regarding optimizing the health of people in that community. Put together, these two concepts provide rich data on which to act when supporting your client. The family"s effect on development of self-concept (potter and perry, p. 403-405) Children develop basic sense of who they are from caregivers. Quality of attachment that children develop with caregivers influences: development of a set of expectations about self, interpretations of actions of other people, ideas about how to respond to them. Quality of parenting interactions influences child development. Supporting and loving care sense of worthiness of other"s love and support.
