Document Summary
Beliefs and values are used to guide action and behaviour. Beliefs- convictions about things that we generally hold to be true: may or may not have proof, quite unmovable. Values- things that we deem important: often relate to concepts like equality, honesty, effort, perseverance, loyalty, dynamic will not remain the same. Values can be correct and incorrect when compared with evidence. Both belief and values guide our attitudes. Think about my own beliefs and values: reflect upon family of origin, derived from culture, community of faith and value system, education contributes to experiences. Values- statements of what would be normative/standards. Values of profession must have social validity. The public must be able to see how the value creates significance to nursing practice and health care. Affective steps: emotional connection, hold value near to hear. Goal: to create a professional social media presence. Perception of what nursing is has been dominated by a functional rather than a philosophical conception.
