Carl rogers (1902-1987: first guy to write about the nurse-client relationship, started patient-centered approach which has ben morphed and aligned over the years. Responsive dimensions: genuineness, respect, empathic understanding, concreteness. Action dimensions: confrontation, immediacy, self disclosure, catharsis. Nurse is open, honest, sincere person who is actively involved. Attitude nonjudgmental: even the most consciousness nurse can"t address all bias but it is our job. Does the nurse condone or accept all behaviour: how we meet the goals of all patients, sexually inappropriate behaviour (confused patient who has lost sexual inhibition) As per last week, it is difficult for nurses to accept patients without. Imperfections considered part of the human condition transferring our thoughts/feelings. Specific, not abstract: (cid:498) i"m stupid and clumsy. Opposite of: generalizing, labeling, making assumptions. Encourages patient to focus on issues instead of wondering or getting off track. Use it a lot in working phase: wanting the client exploring and expanding. Related to positive clinical outcomes: clients goals achieved.
