A client is having a renal biopsy on a lesion that was found during an ultrasound. He questions the nurse on the reasons for the procedure. Metastasis: spread of malignant cells most common through lymphatics. Cells are more likely are less adherent and may break off. Determine presence and extent of tumour diagnose then biopsy. Evaluate function of involved and uninvolved body systems and organs. Obtain tissue and cells for analysis (stage and grade) Common types: leukemia, cns tumour, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, wil(cid:373)s(cid:859) tu(cid:373)ou(cid:396, bone tumour, retinoblastoma. Adult: more likely to have malignancy with dx, little known re: prevention, very (more) responsive to treatment. % of people alive after cancer diagnosis. Most reported for a specific time period e. g. 5 years. 63% of cdns dx with cancer are expected to survive 5 years. 70% of new cancers occur > 60 years old.
