Depends on: location, size, collateral blood flow, fast face (drooping), arms (raise both), speech (slurred or jumbled), time (call) Non-modifiable: race, age over 55, gender males greater than males. Modifiable: htn, cardiovascular dx (e. g. afib pooling of blood in atrium, clots, hyperlipidemia, obesity, smoking, diabetes, asymptomatic carotid stenosis, modest alcohol consumption, periodontal disease.
