Week 12 communication: sbar & heart failure. Inability of the heart to pump sufficient blood to meet the needs of the tissues. Revolves around s&s of fluid overload or inadequate tissue perfusion. Considered an (cid:498)epidemic(cid:499) in most of developed world pop and living longer which increases comorbidities. 400,000 cdns have hf, >50% mortality within 5 years. High rates of rehospitalization chronic, no cure. Output cannot meet the nedds f the body nutrients, etc needs of the body cant get to areas of the body. Causes: mi, aging (organs age, muscle may not be compliant, stiffer etc), hypertension, Systolic heart failure (left side weakens, cannot pump: more common. Went from left and right sided hf now, called systolic and diastolic. Class i asymptomatic, generally no limitations to adls. Class 1 feeling okay, ability to perform adls. Class ii slight limitation to adls, soboe. Class iii marked limitation to adls, comfortable at rest.
