They must have the courage and support in order to leave. Often, victims leave for the sake of the kids (initially). So they stay for the kids and leave for the kids. Domestic violence is any use of physical or sexual force, actual or threatened, in an intimate relationship. Although both women and men can be victims of domestic violence, the overwhelming majority of this violence involves men abusing women. Men are most in danger of other men. Women are the most in danger in their home, by someone they know and trust. Often occurs in a context where there is a patterns of assaultive and controlling behavior. May be physical, emotional, psychological and sexual nature. Can include threats to harm children, other family members, pets and property.
