Document Summary

:putting the structure of an argument in a diagram. Premises are written above the statements they support, arrow goes from premise what is supports. Simple argument: a single premise supports a conclusion. Premise (p) goes directly above the conclusion. Can be multiple if structure is c1 therefore c2, or c2 therefore c1. Independent support: when different reasons for the conclusion are offered. Join support: reasons that work together to support the conclusion. Premises must be on the same line above the conclusion. Has a v structure because they"re independent points that work together to support the conclusion. If one of the premises if false, the other one is still a strong argument for the conclusion. Diagram has a (cid:3247)t(cid:3248) structure shows that the premises are working together to support the same conclusion. Both premises must both be true to provide support for conclusion.
