Document Summary

It"s about the way you understand and have a relationship with your. Own death not the death of others. This is different to conceptualize because it is something that you have never experienced. They pose the question of whether or not death imposes a meaning on your life. Heidegger believes that death completes the whole of your life and is needed to understand what life is. This isn"t to say that death gives life purpose, only that we can"t understand life without some sort of conception of death without death, the concept of life does not have meaning. Sartre, on the other hand, thinks that death does not give meaning to life and that if anything, the fact that you will die shows the lack of meaning in the absurdity of what life is. Their disagreement leads us to question whether or not they are talking about the same thing.
