Document Summary
Violence and aggression in contemporary sport jim parry. Parry investigates the relationship between violence and aggression in sports, and their legitimate expression. The results of violence, however, are widely condemned. Sports psychologists run together two very different ideas. Aggression" defined as direct physical contact accompanied by the intent to do bodily harm". Violence attempt to injure that"s against the rules. What does parry think are 3 possible responses to violence in sport and the case of boxing: not a sport, not all violence is unacceptable, uniqueness of boxing. Sometimes, violence may be justifiable (in war, or revolution, or terrorism; or in boxing, where violence" within bounds is legitimate). Illegitimate violence must be characterized as the attempt to harm by the use of illegitimate force. Aggression occurring in the achievement of non-aggressive goals is known as instrumental aggression. In contrast, aggression where the goal is injury to some object is known as anger or reactive aggression.
