Political power: the power to issue and enforce binding commands. The party leader who can secure the confidence of the house of commons: everyone, political power should be distributed equally, every citizen should have the right to an equal say. Same right to participate in decision making. What is democracy: rule (kratos) but the many (demos, focused on procedure on decision making, collective self-rule. All of us together ruling ourselves: government of, by, and for the people. People doing the ruling are also being ruled. Ruled in the interest of the governed: historically unpopular view. Voters get an opportunity every 4 years to pass judgement on the rulers: division of labour iii. Public sphere (the state) vs private sphere (the individual: two ways to limit the scope of democracy , by appealing to the democratic ideal, by assigning the issue to the private sphere.
