Statute law: laws that are made or originated by the house. Has a monopoly on violence (state has the capacity to have an army, police force and dominant monopoly on unit) We legitimize that power by participating in elections. A set of rules that authoritatively establishes both the structure and the fundamental principles of the political regime. A document that sets limits on the exercise of power represents basic values of a political system. When we create a constitution we set out a law that protects all citizens from the government. Includes the structure of government (prime minister, house ,senate) If there is a law that contradicts the constitution it will be struck down.
