Originally everything that is now owned by someone was owned by no one. At one point, everything that existed existed without ownership (before human time) Should not be taking things in order to waste it, in order to have it just to have it. Believes that the lord gave things in abundance in order that everyone can survive take only what we need to survive, not for sport. Second proviso: leave enough and as good for others. Take only what we need to survive in order to allow others to survive. This argument would have worked in 17c when most people were farmers and lived off of the land. Objections to survival argument: doesn"t generate property rights in land, machinery, and capital.
