Weber on legitimacy: domination + legitimacy = authourity, no ruler wants to rule just by force alone, three ways to legitimate domination: Political authourity is power that has been touched by authourity: traditional regarded as legitimate because it has always existed. Operates according to concrete a rule, that is, fixed, unquestioned customs that do not need to be justified because they have always been. (i. e. in tribes: charismatic the power of an individuals personality, their charisma. Appeals to followers as a hero or saint, especially in time of crisis. Two consequences, first, charismatic authourity is based on no formal rules; it has no procedures, and often has no limits. Second, it is difficult for a system of personal rule to outlive its founding figure: legal rational the appeal of reasonable and general rules. A leader is legit because their rise to power was legit. Advantage of this authourity, it is attached to an office rather than a person.
