Feudalsim; king at the top, masses of people at the bottom. 1789: declaration of the rights of man and of the citizen. Liberalism: suggests that there is tolerance, puts forward the idea of equal opportunity, constitutional government. Physiocrats; they believe free trade is the most important thing. Conducive to order, good government, liberty, and security. Provide public education and the infrastructure needed to do business. Smith opposes trade barriers, but supports taxation to benefit the poor.
