Not ideal, but a democracy achievable in our world. Contains parties, well organized participation at a variety of levels involving different interest groups/ organizations (setting boundaries to what democratic leaders can do), effective protest. New democracies - complex and often incomplete transitions: Party and popular participation can be tenuous. Do not run smoothly, often attempts to make it dif cult for participants to run in these elections. Economic challenges - politicians can"t respond to economic crises. The point of organizing economy is not to maximize freedom. As a result there is less space for individualism and human rights. But - china is an outlier in these categories: Has a ruling communist party, not a democracy. Islamic regimes - import islamic way of life to political sphere: Theocratic regimes that exist not to organize elections but to justify power based on appeal to a religious text.
