Time, sacrifice, and posterity: time horizons, we sacrifice now, others benefit later, the impossibility of reciprocity. Islam and politics: the spread of islam, the five pillars of islam: shahada, salat, zakat, sawm, jajj, jihad (lesser and greater, the struggle against evil, sharia, prohibition against interest, taxing wealthy to benefit poor, recommendation of theocratic rule. Four external threats to islam: crusades (1095-1300 ad, europeans imperialism, the state of israel, western ideas of modernity. The problem and the solution: the problem: western decadence, solution 1: resist western influence, solution 2: islamic state. Against the corrupt west: attack the corrupt muslims, people who supposedly are not following the muslim faith, attacking us power, educating boys, instill them with their radical beliefs, bearing witness (shahada) Radical islamism as an ideology: explanation, evaluation, orientation, political program. Islamic versus western: what is the evidence, us allies: saudi arabia, pakistan, india, indonesia, muslim support for democracy.
