Development leads to democracy which intends to create peace. Key idea: development is a violent process. Development is redistribution of power & resources which is often driven by violence: war economics & merchants of death. Development led to symbolic & structural violence in former colonies. The effect of colonial violence is very much alive. Good management of diversity, inclusive governance & equitable distribution of resources. Contain the violence & minimize its impacts through peacekeeping. Resolves the underlying causes, liberal peacebuilding (traditional western state) Resolve the immediate cause of violence through humanitarian intervention & meditation. Assistance that is primarily aimed at providing emergency life-saving support to people affected by crisis. The age of imperial humanitarianism, 1800 1945. The age of liberal humanitarianism, 1989 present. Wilsonian view & consider humanitarianism a way to help some states become part of the liberal world.
