There are at least 4 different types of democratic systems in the developing world. Pseudo democracies: most of these democratic institutions exist, elections are held on a regular basis, but the outcome is often known because competitors are often jailed or forced to withdraw, russia, egypt, rwanda, etc. Complex mechanisms through which citizens articulate their interests, exercise their rights & obligations & mediate their differences. Inclusive means through which citizens articulate their interests, exercise their rights & obligations & mediate their differences. Democracies take place in the form of waves. Second wave (1946-1962: mostly took place in africa. Third wave (1974-200: post-cold war period, most started in 1989, latin america, asia, africa were democratized. Waves of democracy occurred because of external factors such as external influence (international actors) Exogenous (external factors) ie: britain, france, wb, imf, wto, oxfam, greenpeace, amazon, Google, etc. putting pressure on countries to democratize.
