An ideology is a specific kind of theory and they have three basic characteristics: It incorporates values and goals that represent the good of society (prescriptive as it tells us what a good society should look like. Set out the means by which the values and goals are going to be achieved and how to put it into practice (action plan) Tries to mobilize individuals around the theory, values and goals of the good society, and attempts to get people to join an action plan. Rule by the people or consent by the governed. Citizens get to chose the laws at which are subject. Those who make the law are chosen by the people and accountable to the people. It is referred to as a liberal democracy which is important because what you can do in a democracy vs. a liberal democracy is very different.
