Cleavages in canadian politics: religion, economics, group identities, ethnicity. Some sense stronger than citizenship = much more meaningful and deeper they will identify with that sometimes. Nationalism ---> non physical, an idea that binds us together. "imagined community: flying a flag, singing songs, How to recognize identity: a shared view of what our national identity is. Instead of forcing them to work, ensure there are ways to ensure they"re not spending money (cid:449)here they should(cid:374)"t (cid:271)e. Should be restrictions on what you can buy: must work for the money they"re getting. We (cid:272)a(cid:374) all agree (cid:449)e lo(cid:448)e ti(cid:373) horto(cid:374)s, a(cid:374)d the leafs, a(cid:374)d tote(cid:373) poles . But it"s the serious issues that there is disagreement. What are the most important values as a canadian: what does literature, music, art tell us about our values, governments shape our identity. Surveys: flag, national anthem, what pictures on our currency, two way fight between governments and citizens.
