After ww2 rise of human rights consciences - there was some sympathy. Ask made alliance with canadian bar association to lobby government to decriminalize homosexual acts. 1969: federal government complied - responding to changing values. Trudeau: state should have no place in bedroom of nation. Women"s movement - challenged patriarchy -> important ally.
