Most important unit of study used to be nation state - internal dynamics. Should focus on emergence of global government structures. New actors: supranational governments (eu), regional trade agreements (nafta), transnational social movements, non-state actors, global citizens. Globalization has made canadian nation state less important. Internal dynamics are less important as globalization has reformed canadian state and identity. Term that we use to refer to interrelated process and developments in a rapidly. Encourages flow of capital, people, and ideas. We need to start broadening our idea of economies being local - global economy. Technological globalization - communication that makes us more inter-connected. Current technologies reduce space more than previous technologies. Reduce things that bind us together as communities. National identity would be replaced by global identity. Nation states are being replaced by supranational actors. Globalization can improve our lives through economic efficiency. Any body that yields power derives its legitimacy from input legitimacy and output.
