These may be formal or informal, enduring or episodic. Parties have different ideas - internal parties, cliques of ideas. Parties are always conglomerations of other different parties. Core structure of parliamentary government predates modern political parties. Explains why gov form on floor of commons as a consequence of alignment of individual representatives, not parties. Not necessarily always beneficial to our democratic process. It is unusual for people to join parties.
