International law: foundation, very neglected aspect of world politics. If they do not meet the standard for one year, nothing will really happen, but they may have to make a greater effort in a future period. If this does not happen breach in diplomatic relations: key institutions. The world court: 140 cases (1947-2011, only deals with cases between state governments. International criminal court: universal jurisdiction, most important institution created most recently, many states thought that there needed to be punishment for individuals who committed terrible mass atrocities. International court of justice could not be used for this purpose as it is only between governments. It is an institution that is independent and can override state sovereignty: only 7 countries voted against the creation of the court yamen, iraq, libya, Jus as bellum: when war is justified, some wars that are illegitimate and some that are justified, all of the follow 3 things must apply to be legit, 1.
