Never relinquish any rights of the sovereign. The covenant is us the people, he is not part of it: safety of the entire people may be in the sacrifice of some of the people. Self interest: ancients believed in virtue and status as opposed to moderns speaking on interest, contracts, covenants, basic of which is self preservation. For the good of the soveraign and people, cannot be separated. Everyone pursues their own desires and passions. Every person is predictable according to those desires. Consideration of problems in a public and private perspective - > possibility of choosing interest of ourselves over the interest of everybody else. Interest of the sovereign is equivalent to that of the commonwealth: undivided will of the sovereign. A divided sovereign can work but it is dangerous as it could slide into civil war, etc: the succession is going to be clearer. Do not want any gaps where the sovereign does not exist.
