Socrates was leading philosopher at the time. Plato inspired by another philosopher named pythagoras (pythagorean theorem) Pythagoras was a radical vegetarian, people believed he could speak to animals. Pythagoras obsessed with numbers and their relationships. Inspired by his love for numbers and emphasis on the idea of harmony (music) Also inspired by his interest in friendship. Pythagoras known to the greeks as the creator of friendship friends have all things in common : this created communal ownership (communism) and plato was also interested in this. Xenophan also wrote about socrates in this he is less of a know it all, humorous. Republic written in the context of athen"s problems. Chief institution of athens is the polis. Zimmern suggests that the polis succeed the warrior clans for speci c reasons: not the richest most populous area in the world, but has certain conditions that allow this polis to be created.
