Why is this politics: politics is how a society creates organized tiles for dealing with conflict and encouraging cooperation. Law = rules + how to handle rule breaking. Why law and order: nearly 30 years of shows (main show, spin offs, ripped from the headlines, fictionalized versions of real life stories and cases, raises all types of issues: political, social, economic, cultural, international. Formula: law - what is the issue, order - what is done to resolve (or not) the issue. Issues covered are: nationally important, political/politicalized, divisive, morally ambiguous, david black - the goal of the show is to start civil dialogue. Is it liberal: tries to bring both sides to issue for moral ambiguity, educating on rights. Individual (one"s rights) against society (what police are trying to protect and regulate) Individuals have rights - pushes this: checks and balances, self regulating system.
