Variable: the factor that you want to explore. Sample: a part of a population, or group that a researcher wants to study & make inferences about. A good sample: are random: each person has equal chances of being in the sample, are representative: same characteristics as population of study (age, gender, education, this is important for drawing conclusions. September 21/23, 2015: telephone: fast and efficient, interviewer bias, mail: avoids interviewer bias, response rates are low, personal interview: more flexible, costly, and interview bias.
