Internanl timing mechanism in the hypothalamus: daylight stimulates the scn which inhibits productions of melatonin in the pineal gland, darkness removes the inhibition resulting in more melatonin we feel tired. Avoiding jet lag: hydrate on plane, avoid alcohol, get up and stretch, light meals, expose self to sunlight upon arrival. Consciousness: awareness of the relationship between self and the external world. Consciousness has several purpose: monitoring keeping track of self, control planning. Tononi (2012): integrated information: conscious experience is what happens when our mind puts available input together, you cannot make you your own conscious like deciding to see in black and white.
