Conflict between what you want to do and what you are pressured to do. Going along with the pressure = conformity. Start to believe in what the group wants internally. Disagree with the group but goes along with what they want anyway. Not doing what they what, simply does what the group does not want. Our behaviour may be shaped by models, even in absence of direct intentional influence. Model performs something that you know is prohibited but desired, but the model"s action removes your inhibition. Increase in suicides following 35 highly publicized suicides in 1950-1969 (phillips, 1989) Model performs legal behaviour, the response is copied. Group gives information that individual can use for rational decision. Pressure to maintain group consensus don"t rock the boat .
