Intelligence can be defined in several different ways. Wanted to find out why she could not get pregnant. Forced sterilization of didn"t get 70 on intelligence test. Believed that intelligence highly related to sensory ability - sight, hearing, touch. Created 17 different tests that would assess people"s sensory abilities - how good eye sight is etc. Anthropometrics: methods of measuring physical and mental variations in humans . Found that there was no relation between different senses. Sensory abilities did not correlate with grades. Binet believed that intelligence involved complex thinking processes. Influenced definition of intelligence: the ability to acquire knowledge, to think and reason effectively, and to deal adaptively with the environment . Trying to think about how we can identify where people are in terms of their mental abilities - if we know where they are, can group them together to teach them the same. Assumes that people"s mental abilities are going to develop with age.
