Here lies the conscious part of you. Implored upon by western society and reality. Faces the problem of running into reality e. g. you want a chocolate bar but you can"t have one. Provide you with what you can and can"t do (arbitrary social norms) e. g. you can"t have long hair if you"re a guy. As we get older we introject those values and norms our parents once mediated to us from society. Theory that the psyche is in con ict, ego mediates it with rational con ict. When you are asleep, the ego loses control of power over the id and the id gets to do what it wants. Censor pushes all primal desires back down into the id e. g. during sleep, id pushes up primal desires such as sex.
